TRAINING

All training sessions are held in the Mandela Hall in Bloomsbury Fitness (the first door you see at the top of the stairs to the mezanine in the gym). Training sessions are hosted separately for beginners (novices) and for more experienced fencers. On Saturdays we host an open sparring session for all in the same venue.

For the more experienced of you out there, Thursday and Saturday sessions are available to do some footwork, get a brief one-on-one lesson or freely spar - we have an average of 100 active members who attend when they can alongside the beginners and those who train at their own venues, so finding someone to fence against won't be an issue. The price for an experienced membership is £70 for the entire year; this entitles you to attend all experienced sessions as well as the Central London Fencing Club sessions.
Opt for a novice membership if you have never tried fencing before. For the novice sessions you will be taught by our resident coach who will teach you either epee or foil; the basics and essentials of sabre can also be covered by our assistant coach. The price for the beginner class is £60; if you choose to continue your fencing career after this course we only ask an additional £10 to promote yourself from the beginner membership to the advanced one.

If you wish only to compete for UCL, we have an additional membership priced at £20; with this membership you can only compete in BUCS. This is for experienced members who have their own coaches in their own clubs.

All fencing kit for the UCL sessions or matches can be provided by the club, and all necessary kit is required to be worn in accordance to British Fencing Guidelines. Beginners need only wear long trousers suitable for exercise and trainers.

In addition to training at UCL, we also have a partnership with Central London Fencing Club, who permit us to attend their training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 19:00 to 21:15, provided that participants have all their own kit. The session consists of a warmup, some footwork drills and training session led by the coach Graham, the remainder of the sessions are free fencing.
